Seetha Amman Temple
Located at the foot of Hakgala, this sacred temple marks the spot in Ashoka Vatika where Sita Devi was held captive by King Ravana. The stream beside it is said to be where Sita bathed daily during her captivity.
Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple
Perched dramatically on a cliff at Ramboda Pass, this temple commemorates the location where Lord Hanuman first arrived in Lanka in search of Sita Devi. A magnificent statue of Hanuman overlooks the misty tea-covered valley.
Divurumpola
The site of Sita's Agni Pariksha the Trial by Fire where Sita proved her purity to Lord Rama. A revered Sita Amman temple stands here today, and the name itself means "place of oath" in Sinhala.
Ravana Falls & Cave
The spectacular Ravana Falls cascade over ancient rock formations, while the caves above are said to have been a hiding place of King Ravana as he concealed Sita from Rama's advancing army. A hauntingly beautiful site.
Ashok Vatika Hakgala Gardens
The legendary Ashok Vatika, the garden where Sita was kept and where Lord Hanuman first found and met her, is identified with Hakgala Botanical Garden a stunning highland garden filled with roses and ancient trees at 1,745m altitude.
Koneswaram Temple
Standing magnificently on Swami Rock a cliff above the Indian Ocean Koneswaram is where Lord Rama himself is said to have worshipped Shiva after the Battle of Lanka. One of Sri Lanka's most spiritually potent and visually dramatic temples.
Munneswaram & Manavari
After his victory over Ravana, Lord Rama prayed at Munneswaram and Manavari temples near Chilaw to cleanse himself of the sin of killing a Brahmin. These ancient shrines remain deeply sacred pilgrimage centres today.
Ussangoda
A barren, burnt-orange headland on Sri Lanka's southern coast, Ussangoda is believed to be the legendary landing place of the Pushpaka Vimana King Ravana's flying vehicle. The unusual scorched earth gives the place an otherworldly atmosphere.
